The Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Studies and Statistical Data, in cooperation with the Arabic Language Learning Evaluation Department, implemented on Tuesday a training workshop discussing the results of the international study to measure reading skills PIRLS 2021. The workshop targeted specialists in the Arabic language, and the first field teachers, supervisors, curriculum and evaluation specialists, and training experts, in addition to first-cycle school administrations and administrative supervisors.
The training workshop included a number of papers, where Fathia Al-Maawli, Director of Studies and Statistical Data Department, presented a paper on the general results of the Sultanate of Oman in this study, and the most important indicators that the study showed compared to previous sessions. The second paper was titled “Ways to provide students of the first cycle with reading comprehension skills according to the International Study for Measuring Reading Skills, PIRLS2021” and was presented by Dr. Mahfouz Al-Shayadi, a senior learning assessment specialist. The third paper discussed the school environment and its impact on student achievement in the International Study for Measuring Reading Skills, PIRLS2021, presented by Mansour Al-Faliti, a senior international studies specialist. During the course of the workshop, the experiences of two schools that achieved outstanding results in the study were reviewed, namely Rawdat Al-Albab School (1-4) from the North Al Batinah Governorate, and Al-Irada School (1-4) from the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate.
It is worth noting that this training workshop aimed at discussing some of the indicators included in the study and studying the impact of some variables on the achievement of the Sultanate of Oman’s students in school.
