The Omani School Sports Association, in cooperation with the Omani Chess Committee, is organizing the School Chess Festival starting tomorrow morning (Thursday) in the educational directorates in the governorates. The School Chess Festival is coinciding with the World Amateur Chess Championship in Muscat.

The festival targets more than (1,000) students from the first cycle classes, representing schools from (9) educational directorates in the governorates of: Al Dakhiliyah, Al ADhahirah, Al Buraimi, Dhofar, Al Sharqiyah South, Al Sharqiyah North, Muscat and Al Batinah North. The festival is held in a gathering system at the level of the educational directorates, and aims to enhance national belonging and loyalty, and spread the practice of chess. It also aims to develop students’ mental skills, stimulate mental abilities for creativity and innovation, and develop the thinking process in a different and distinctive way.

In addition, the festival includes many accompanying activities, including a face-painting event, some children's favorite artistic performances, visual performances, plays, student performances, and various competitions, with the aim of introducing the game of chess in a different way.
