The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision - Department of Human Sciences Supervision, held a lecture entitled “Sustaining Cities and Enhancing the Role of Communities in Developing the Urban Environment,” virtually, in line with the celebration of International Day of Cities.
The lecture targeted supervisors and senior supervisors from the Ministry’s General Diwan and the educational directorates in the governorates, in addition to the teaching staff. The lecture aims at instilling awareness of the importance of sustainability of cities and enhancing the role of communities in developing the urban environment as a goal of sustainable development as set by the United Nations. The lecture also aims at celebrating the International Day of Cities and displaying leading local and international experiences and expertise in the field of sustainable development.
The lecture was presented by Engineer Ali bin Jaafar Al Lawati, a PhD researcher in the United Kingdom, during which he discussed the natural environment and architecture in Oman and addressed the planning features of the Omani neighborhood through three theme: site selection, space distribution, and social life.
