Ministry of Education reviews Metaverse Technology in Education

Under the auspices of HE Majid bin Said Al-Bahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs, the Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Curriculum Development, in cooperation with the Arab Center for Engineering Equipment and Services, established a program to review the METAVERSE technology and the possibility of employing it in education in order to create an advanced interactive educational environment that supports. various educational resources.

Dr. Sultan Al Kindi, Assistant Director-General for Educational Resources Affairs at the Directorate-General of Curriculum Development, delivered the Ministry’s speech in which he said: “The technological field is a rapidly changing medium due to the diverse and renewable technologies and digital solutions it provides that touch all vital sectors, including the education sector. Technology in the education sector is one of the most important capabilities that help in the transition towards digital education and improving the quality of education and learning to make the educational environment in schools a stimulating environment for creativity and innovation through the use of technologies and various digital solutions. This, in turn, contributes to achieving the priority of teaching and learning, scientific research, and national capabilities that are within the goals of Oman Vision 2040. The Directorate-General of Curriculum Development is keen to review Metaverse technology as one of the technologies and digital solutions in the field of educational technologies related to the educational process, and to share it with colleagues, curriculum specialists, and specialists in the relevant directorates of the Ministry, which contributes to enabling its use according to future educational needs in this field.”

Dr. Said Al Wahaibi, Executive Director of Al Arabi Center for Equipment and Engineering Services, delivered the center’s speech in which he said: “Education in the Sultanate of Oman is one of the main pillars of Oman Vision 2040, as the educational vision is embodied in advanced modern education, according to the highest standards, through strategic direction to comprehensive education, sustainable learning, and scientific research that lead to a knowledge society and competitive national capabilities, achieving an educational system characterized by

high quality, community partnership, and developing educational curricula so that graduates of the educational system become qualified to enter local and global labor markets with competitive abilities, capabilities, and skills that meet the required levels of productivity and competitiveness to build a knowledge economy and enhance job security.”

Engineer Ahmed Abdul Latif Omar presented a paper entitled: “Metaverse and Education”, which included several topics, including definition of metaverse technology, justifications for using metaverse in the educational process, health facts, areas of using the metaverse in learning (theoretical subjects, scientific subjects), and requirements of using Metaverse technology in learning, and the challenges of using this technology in learning.

The program included three papers, the first paper was entitled: “Presenting Models, Experiments, and Practical Applications Designed with Metaverse Technology in Education,” the second paper focused on virtual reality and augmented reality technologies in education, and the last paper in the program talked about infrastructure requirements and electronic security. Specialists from the Al Arabi Center for Engineering Equipment and Services took turns presenting these papers.

The program aims to raise the level of knowledge about metaverse technology and its advanced uses in various fields, including education, and shed light on how to use this innovative technology to improve the teaching and learning process. It also aims to discuss the most important requirements for adopting it in education and identify future developments in metaverse technology and its potential impact on innovation and the future of education, such as the use of artificial intelligence, mixed reality, human-machine interaction, etc. The program also seeks to identify the infrastructure requirements for metaverse technology, the principles and frameworks of comprehensive safe control, and the mechanisms for enabling them in education.
