Ministry of Education holds the Annual Forum for Educational Measurement and Evaluation Departments

The Ministry of Education, represented by the Center for Educational Measurement and Evaluation, held today (Tuesday) morning the Annual Forum for Educational Measurement and Evaluation Departments, under the patronage of Dr. Ali Al-Shukaili, Director-General of the Center for Educational Measurement and Evaluation, and in the presence of the directors of the Educational Measurement and Evaluation Departments in the governorates, the directors of the departments and their assistants, and the heads of departments at the Center for Educational Measurement and Evaluation. The forum took place at the Grand Hormuz Hotel Muscat.

At the beginning of the forum, Dr. Ali Al-Shukaili, Director-General of the Center for Educational Measurement and Evaluation, delivered the opening speech in which he said: “Through this forum, we seek to introduce the center’s most prominent projects and initiatives, look at some developments in evaluation work, such as documents evaluating students’ learning of some academic subjects, and discuss directions of General Education Diploma examination work. We also seek to exchange views, notes, and challenges that concern many people, whether they are from the educational field or from different groups of society. We also shed light on the tasks of some departments in the center, such as evaluating the curricula and the scientific methodology used and aspire to improve the work in some departments such as certificates belonging to educational directorates.”

Dr. Ali Al-Shukaili added: “We also point out and emphasize the center’s tireless endeavor to benefit as much as possible from modern technologies in everything that would enhance the aspects of educational measurement and evaluation in all its departments, keeping pace with global development in this field with the efforts undertaken by the Ministry in the field of digital transformation, and this is in line with what the government has pursued in order to achieve Oman Vision 2040.”

The forum included 8 papers divided into two sessions, and a discussion was held after each session for the papers presented. Issa bin Nasser Al Rashidi, Assistant Director-General of the Center, presented the first paper, which dealt with the

specializations of the Center for Educational Measurement and Evaluation and its most prominent projects and initiatives. The second paper was presented by Khalid Al-Bahri and Alia Al-Hajri and discussed the latest developments in student learning evaluation documents in science and mathematics subjects for the twelfth grade.

Saud Al Kindi from the Directorate-General of Education in Muscat Governorate presented the third paper, which presented a vision for the “electronic examination and auditing” proposal, whereas the fourth paper was presented by Fahd Al Rahbi, in which he talked about investing in statistical indicators to develop the educational process.

In the second session, Majdi Al Zaabi presented the fifth paper, which talked about the guidelines for examination work, followed by the sixth paper entitled “Research Studies in the Field of Evaluating Student Learning,” and presented by Mahmoud Al-Azri from the Directorate-General of Education in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The seventh paper, entitled “Evaluating the Curriculum: Mechanism and Scientific Methodology,” was presented by Dr. Zainab Al-Ajmi, and the eighth paper: entitled “Improving the Work of Certification Departments in the Governorates” was presented by Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghasini. The forum concluded with a general discussion on everything related to educational measurement and evaluation, listening to the participants, responding to their inquiries, and coming up with recommendations that serve the educational field.
