The Ministry of Education, represented by the Omani School Sports Association, and in cooperation with the Directorate-General of Special Education and Continuous Learning, concluded the school sports festival for people with disabilities under the patronage of HH Sayyida Hujaija bint Jeffer Al Said, and in the presence of Suleiman bin Saif Al Kindi, Advisor to the Minister of Education for Information Technology, and a group of ambassadors of the Omani School Sports Association, and a number of invitees.

The closing ceremony witnessed a goalball exhibition match presented by the students of the Omar Bin Al Khattab Institute for the Blind, after which the participating students, the parties participating in the festival, the supporters, and the organizers of the activities of the school sports festival for people with disabilities were honored.

On the importance of such festivals for the people with disabilities, HH Sayyida Hujaija bint Jeffer Al-Said said: “Such sports festivals help a lot in integrating children with disabilities into society, contribute to developing their skills in various games, and highlight their abilities in the sports field. The Ministry of Education works to involve all civil society organizations concerned with disabilities in all events, whether sports, cultural, or artistic, and the Ministry has a major role in developing students’ talents.”

Khalil Al-Tamimi, member of the Institutional Communication Committee of the Omani School Sports Federation, said: The event comes within the Association’s agenda for the academic year 2023/2024, and it is one of the events that are held annually in cooperation with the Directorate-General of Special Education and Continuous Education, and a number of partners cooperating with the Association. It targeted (300) students from the School of Intellectual Education, Al Amal School for the Deaf, and Omar Bin Al Khattab Institute for the Blind.”

It is worth noting that the school sports festival for people with disabilities aims to provide the opportunity to reveal their skills and competencies in various games, introduce workers in the field of sports to group and individual games for people with disabilities, encouraging them to highlight their sporting abilities, and integrating them into the local community.
