The Ministry of Education, represented by the Center for Vocational and Student Guidance, the Counseling and Awareness Department, and the Psychological Counseling Department, celebrated World Psychological Health Day, which falls on the 10th of October every year. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Mrs. Sana bint Hamad Al Busaidi, Advisor to HE the Minister of Education, and the celebration of psychological health this year comes with the slogan “psychological health, a universal human right”, in order to raise awareness of psychological health and to bring about a positive change in the level of psychological health among individuals.
The ceremony included a speech by the Psychological Counseling Department delivered by Dr. Salim Al Busafi, a psychological counseling supervisor at Educational Directorate at Muscat Governorate, in which he said: “Psychological health is an integral part of public health, and health is not complete without it, as it includes emotional, psychological, and social safety that affect the way you think, feel, work, and communicate with others. It also helps determine how to deal with stress and pressure and make sound decisions. Psychological health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence to young adulthood and old age. This celebration is only with the aim of raising awareness of its issues around the world, and dedicating efforts to support it. The importance of the role of psychologists in schools is evident through the provision of consultations and types of individual and group guidance, guidance classes, and implementation of research, initiatives, and specialized events because of their influential and effective aspect in psychological health, and they are an integral part of the students’ educational journey.”
Then, Prof. Dr. Samer Jameel Radwan, a professor of clinical psychology at the University of Nizwa, presented a lecture entitled: How to achieve mental health, and the Al-Din Theater for Culture and Art troupe presented a scene demonstrating the details of this year’s psychological health slogan, and then a video was shown about psychological health by a group of psychologists in the educational field. A group of school students participated in a student debate in which they discussed the
importance of psychological health in human life, after which the supporting bodies, distinguished supervisors, psychologists, and the organizing committee were honored.
The aim of celebrating World Psychological Health Day is to exchange experiences in the field of psychological health and counseling, present the most important psychological initiatives directed at students, inform those concerned about these initiatives, and counseling intervention in the educational field regarding psychological and behavioral problems among students, and link psychological guidance and counseling services to the goals of Center for vocational guidance and student guidance towards students.
It is worth noting that the Department of Psychological Counseling presented last Wednesday, October 4th, a virtual program for psychologists to celebrate World Psychological Health Day. The program included a lecture entitled: Psychologist’s Skills for Dealing with Psychological Cases, presented by Dr. Amna Al Shamsi, a psychiatrist at Malaz Clinic, and another lecture presented by Dr. Shaima is a psychiatrist at Al-Masara Hospital with the title: Cognitive and Behavioral Treatment for Depression Disorder. The Student Parliament initiative was presented by Hamda Al-Omari, a psychologist.
