The Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Training and Rehabilitation, in cooperation with the Omani School Sports Association, is implementing a training program titled: “Managing Events and Sports Championships”. The program targets 26 teachers and supervisors in the field of physical education and sports activities management from various educational directorates in the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

The activities of the training program began yesterday (Sunday) morning, and continues for five consecutive days, where a number of training sessions are presented by Dr. Sulaiman Al Balushi, a prominent expert in the field of sports and event management. The program includes several aspects, including comprehensive planning for tournaments, formation of teams, and mechanisms for managing financial matters related to tournaments. Funding issues and sources of income available for sports tournaments are also addressed, in addition to developing programs accompanying tournaments, and exploring their added value. The program also addresses the legal aspects related to sports tournaments, focusing on sports marketing strategies, means of reaching target groups, how to attract sports sponsorships, and evaluation strategies for tournaments and sporting events.

Within the framework of the practical side of the program, the participants are divided into work teams that have to apply the latest methods and procedures in the process of planning events and sports tournaments. Each team is asked to develop a general plan for organizing a virtual tournament, which will be presented on the final day to select the best team and presentation.

Sheikha Al Maamriya, School Activities Specialist at Al Buraimi Governorate, and participant in the program, said: “The training program is a wonderful opportunity to learn about several foundations that help the teacher to form knowledge that will benefit the learner to organize sports events in an organized manner according to organized frameworks, and according to one team characterized by cooperation and hard work. The importance of these programs lies in the fact that they establish in the minds of teachers a set of effective foundations in an organized manner according to an effective system that works in the spirit of one team.”

Abdullah Al Dhahli, School Sports Teacher in the South Al Batinah Governorate, said: “The importance of this program comes because it is one of the basics that the athlete needs, whether sports teachers, or school activities specialists in organizing and conducting sports events in terms of setting goals, choosing the place to hold them, and determining the various needs of the event. The impact of such events can be conveyed by holding mini-workshops and practical training for holding such sports events.”

The Events and Sports Championships Management Program aims to develop the skills and abilities of participants, and their familiarity with the procedural foundations of organizing and managing various sporting events. It also aims to develop the participants’ ability to analyze the environment surrounding the events, discover expected risks before they occur, and learn about ways to find sources of income and sponsorships for the sports event.
