The Ministry of Education, with the support of PDO, launched the sixth edition of the PDO Renewable Energy Award, which comes under the title “Zero Carbon Neutrality” for the academic year 2023/2024, targeting public and private school students in grades 7 to 12. The award aims to increase awareness among school students to recognize the importance of using renewable energy in daily life as an alternative to fossil fuels, innovating new ways to reduce carbon emissions that are harmful to the environment, and developing students’ abilities in the skill and technical aspects.

Accompanying the launch of the award was the launch of the promotional film for the award and its promotional posters in Arabic and English, which encourage students to interact and participate. It was also accompanied by the launch of the registration link for students wishing to participate according to the conditions required by the award. Alongside the award also was the announcement of the training programs accompanying the award, which include providing training sessions and workshops provided remotely by experts and specialists to promote the award and clarify aspects of the participating student. The award goes through four stages, starting with the announcement of the award, then the initial screening of the candidate ideas, and the initial evaluation stage from which the teams will be qualified for the final evaluation. The final evaluation and announcing the winners will be during the Oman Sustainability Week, which will be held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center during the period April 28 to May 2, 2024.

The Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the private sector, continues to provide qualitative programs that serve students’ learning and develop their abilities in applied innovative aspects. The award was launched in its first edition during the academic year 2017/2018, and since then, it has worked to enhance the trend towards the possibility of using renewable energy sources in aspects of daily life and came up with ideas that could be employed and even produced in and outside the school, which is the ultimate goal for which the award came, as each of its courses is devoted to a specific topic.
