The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision – Applied Sciences Supervision Department – implemented a virtual forum for genetic technology, which targeted teachers, senior teachers, supervisors, and senior supervisors in order to discuss the latest developments in genetic technology.
The virtual forum discussed analysis, cloning of genes, and the design of genetically modified organisms. Dr. Khadija Al Balushi, Director of the Applied Sciences Supervision Department, said: “The world is moving at an accelerated technical pace that affects all areas of life, especially those related to the educational system. Perhaps scientific development, especially in the genetic field, has become one of the most important aspects affected by these steps. It was necessary for education to keep pace with this development, and to provide its beneficiaries, science students, with the most important developments in this field. Accordingly, the Biology Unit Enrichment Forum for Genetic Technology comes to raise the attendance of teachers and supervisory groups’ awareness of the developments in genetic technology.
The aim of the forum is to acquire skills, extract genetic information about the gene to be studied, how to identify the sequences of its nitrogenous bases, design the principles used to amplify it through thermal passaging, and acquire the skills of designing the appropriate plasmid for the process of cloning the insulin gene and how to produce it by the fermentation process (Bioreactor).
