21/06/2023

The Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Innovation and the Scientific Olympiad, is implementing a central training program for the Science Olympiad, which started on June 16 and ends tomorrow (Thursday), June 22, with the participation of (43) students from the eighth and ninth grades in mathematics and science, to prepare them to participate in international competitions in the field of Olympiads through central training, and local competitions represented in the National Olympiads in the Sultanate of Oman.

The training period is a competitive time for students, as they are arranged according to the scientific level in each subject separately by the national trainers, through attendance, participation, homework assignments, accompanying activities, and short tests. Students also receive 10 hours per day as an intensive training at this stage for a week in each subject. At the end of the training, a qualifying test is carried out to select outstanding students in each Olympiad, and to form national teams that compete at the regional and global levels.

The training program includes scientific tests dealing with non-stereotypical, innovative questions at the level of higher abilities in the four fields of mathematics (algebra, number theory, geometry, and combinations) and in the fields of science (chemistry, physics, and biology), in addition to practical training. These training programs aim to raise the achievement level of students, increase their demand for scientific disciplines, and form national teams of students from the Sultanate of Oman that possess high skills and capabilities.

The central training program for the Scientific Olympiad aims to contribute to the development of science and mathematics curricula, discover talented students at science and mathematics, to invest their abilities, and to train them on higher skills questions to participate in regional and international Olympiads, and to exchange knowledge and experiences in scientific subjects between schools and educational governorates in the Sultanate of Oman.
