The Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Innovation and Scientific Olympiad, continues implementing the training camp for (6) students as part of their preparation to participate and represent the Sultanate in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in its (64th) edition, which is to be held in Japan during the period (2-13) of July.

This training camp aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge necessary to bridge the knowledge gap between the level of pre-university education in the previous themes and what is needed to understand the problems raised and then solve them. It also aims to provide them with problem-solving skills and strategies, and to teach them methods for formulating solutions that they can write in correct ways. A training plan has been developed to be implemented remotely by a group of trainers and experts from whom are attested to have competence and experience in training students of the International Olympiads. The Sultanate’s student team is undergoing external training (by external trainers) remotely (virtually) from February until July 2023.

The International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) is an international competition that is held annually in candidate countries for high school students. The competition includes a test with a high level of difficulty, in which pre-university students (that is, under the age of twenty years) participate, and each country participates with a team of six students maximum. The first Olympiad was held in 1959 in Romania with the participation of only seven countries. Participation in such an Olympiad aims to hone students’ skills and prepare a generation that is excellent in academic achievement through the application of national scientific Olympiads, instilling a spirit of competition and cooperation among them and encouraging them to participate in various international forums.
