Ministry of Education honors Participants of the Specialized Certificate Program for Learning Resource Centers Workers

HE Majid bin Said Al-Bahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs, patronaged  (Tuesday) morning the honoring ceremony for the participants in the "Specialized Certificate for Learning Resource Centers Workers" program, which was implemented in joint cooperation between Sultan Qaboos University represented by the Community Service Center, the Department of Information Studies and the Ministry of Education represented by the Directorate-General of Curriculum Development.

The ceremony took place in the Conference Hall at Sultan Qaboos University, in the presence of Dr. Salem bin Hamoud Al Harthy, Vice Chairman for Academic Affairs and Community Service, directors general of the Ministry of Education and their assistants, supervisors and learning resources specialists.

The ceremony began with the SQU’s speech delivered by Dr. Ali bin Hussain Al-Belushi, Director of the Community Service Center, in which he said: “The aim of this specialized vocational training program is to enhance the professional training of learning resource center specialists and raise their professional competencies, integrate modern technologies in developing the services of learning resource centers, and provide the participants with skills of information and technical awareness to employ them to serve the educational process. The program was launched in 2014 and continued until the end of 2019 and consisted of 100 training hours for each group, divided into two levels, each level consisting of 50 hours. The first level focused on many topics, such as recent trends in managing learning resource centers, information awareness, research strategies, and electronic publishing. The second level focused on managing change and development in learning resource centers, cloud computing and its applications in specialization, and the skills of preparing education studies and documentation controls.”

Dr. Ali Al-Belushi added: “Approximately 290 learning resources specialists participated in the training program, in which they implemented many projects, most of which were distinguished, touching on the reality of the educational environment in schools. A distinguished group of supervisors also participated in the supervision

providing hands of support to their colleagues during the implementation of their specialized projects.”

The ceremony also included the Ministry’s speech delivered by Dr. Sana Al-Senani, Assistant Director-General of the Directorate-General of Curriculum Development, in which she said: “The Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the leading training institutions in the Sultanate, has sought to implement integrated training programs that are commensurate with technical changes and support the skills and competencies that workers in learning resource centers must have, and from this standpoint the “Specialized Certificate for Learning Resource Centers Workers” program emerged in joint cooperation between Sultan Qaboos University represented by the Community Service Center and the Department of Information Studies and the Ministry of Education represented by the Directorate General of Curriculum Development. It is a specialized professional program that combines in its themes the various technical, professional, and administrative skills needed by the cadres working in the centers to activate and accomplish their main role in the educational process.”

Dr. Sana Al-Senani also added: “The Ministry of Education sought to achieve the future vision of learning resource centers to enhance their ability to keep pace with modern technological developments, to be a major source of support for curricula and an environment that encourages research and cognitive exploration to achieve sustainable learning among workers in the educational field. This ceremony comes out of belief in the efforts that have been made for the success of this program and in appreciation of the cadres working in the Learning Resource Centers from various categories, which have contributed to the advancement of the Learning Resource Centers to reach what it is now.”

After that, Maymouna Al-Shabibi gave the participants’ speech, followed by a visual presentation on the program. Then, the patronaged of the ceremony, HE Majid bin Said Al Bahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs, handed out certificates of honor to the program participants.
