The Parents’ Councils’ Symposium “Community Partnership and Pioneering Roles in Education” kicks-off today (Wednesday) under the auspices of HE Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al Harassi, Minister of Information. Organized by the Ministry of Education, the two-days symposium is taking place at the Great Hall at Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.
More than (580) participants from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman are taking part in the symposium, in the presence of Their Excellencies, Governors and Wallis, chairmen of parents’ councils and their deputies in the various Wilayats, heads of parents’ councils in public and private schools and their deputies, special education schools, and representatives from government and private institutions, civil society institutions, public and private universities, Omani women’s associations and sports clubs.
The opening of the symposium begins with the ministry’s speech, and a documentary film, followed by the parents’ councils’ speech. The opening also includes a theatrical operetta: “For Community Partnership”, and the launch of the visual identity of the parents’ councils.
Dr. Sulaiman Al-Jamudi, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision at the Ministry, and Chairman of the main organizing committee of the symposium, said: “Due to the importance of parents’ councils in achieving the desired education goals, comes the Ministry’s implementation of this symposium with the aim of enabling parents’ councils at their various levels to reach best practices in activating their roles. The symposium also aims at enhancing communication between schools and society, promoting integration between the school community and the local community in its various institutions, and building positive trends towards the importance of solidarity and community partnership in the educational process. It also seeks to informing heads and members of parents’ councils about the best global and local practices in activating parents’ councils, providing a space for direct communication, building partnerships and integration between parents’ councils in the Sultanate.”
The first day of the symposium includes three sessions, each session dealing with one theme, as the first (main) session revolves around the theme of parents’ councils and active roles to enhance community partnership, during which three papers are presented, namely: “Parents’ Councils and Effective Roles to Enhance Community Partnership: Pioneering Experiences and Models”, “International Experiences and Models in Activating Parents’ Councils and Community Partnership”, and “Local Experiences and Models in Activating Parents’ Councils and Community Partnership.”
The second session focuses on the theme of community communication to enhance learning and teaching: methods and requirements for effectiveness, in which two papers are presented, namely: “"Communication with the School: Importance and Methods" and "Community Communication oriented towards Effective Learning and Teaching". The third session, which is a dialogue session, includes a paper titled "Strategy of Cooperation and Partnership between the Ministry of Education and Private Sector Institutions".
