Education implements Intellectual Property Forum “Our Schools Promote Intellectual Property”
The Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Innovation and Scientific Olympiad, implemented the Intellectual Property Forum under the slogan “Our Schools Promote Intellectual Property”. Th forum comes with the participation of specialists from the Ministry of Education, Sultan Qaboos University, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, and Al Buraimi Vocational College.
The forum comes as an extension of the program to enhance awareness of the importance of intellectual property among schoolteachers, which was launched by the Department of Innovation and Scientific Olympiad in February 2023, targeting schoolteachers in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to enable the Omani teacher to design interesting educational tools and means for students to display and highlight intellectual property, its importance, types and methods of protection, and to exchange experience between teachers by presenting successful and interesting experiences in this aspect.
Dr. Mia Al-Azri, an educational expert in the Office of the Minister of Education and in charge of the Department of Innovation and Scientific Olympiad, said: “The Intellectual Property Forum is one of the programs related to raising awareness among school students, and administrative and teaching staff of the importance of protecting intellectual property rights. It is an extension to a program was launched from the beginning of the second semester, and mainly targeted teachers to bring innovative, non-stereotypical ideas for educational means through which they would be able to communicate this information related to intellectual property in an exciting manner to students. Therefore, a competition was launched for teachers in several categories, including video design, electronic application, a website, or a theatrical scenario to communicate intellectual property concepts to students.”
The forum mainly aims to raise teachers' awareness of the importance of intellectual property and ways to protect it, spread the concept of intellectual property and its importance to students at various levels of study, and provide various educational materials and tools to teach the principles of intellectual property to
students. The program went through three phases, starting with launching the program and circulating it to all schools, going through the evaluation process, and ending with the organization of the Intellectual Property Forum for Teachers, which included presenting the most prominent work delivered by the teachers. It also included a number of papers by specialists from the various concerned institutions and honoring teachers who presented the most outstanding works in the various fields of the competition.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Education is interested in raising awareness in the field of intellectual property, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization and the concerned authorities in the Sultanate, through the implementation of several programs targeting school students, teachers and specialists.
