The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Special Education and Continuous Learning, participated this morning (Monday) in the inauguration of the first forum for people with disabilities "Integration and Empowerment" under the auspices of Mr. Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat. The forum is organized by the Ministry of Social Development with the participation of a number of governmental and private agencies and civil associations concerned with people with disabilities. The three days forum is taking place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.
The Ministry's participation came in a number of activities and preparatory seminars. At the opening ceremony, Nebras Al-Kasbi, a student in the third grade at the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Institute for the Blind, recited a poem entitled "Omanis." Students of the tenth grade presented a national chanting paragraph, while Muhammad bin Hamad Al-Rahbi and Lamis Bint Fahd Al Habsi from Al Amal School for the Deaf performed two musical pieces.
The Ministry also has a share in participating in the accompanying exhibition, through a corner that includes a number of various stations, such as: "Diagnostic Station" to introduce visitors to the exhibition to the diagnostic procedures and services provided by the Ministry to students with disabilities, such as curricula for people with visual disabilities, the educational aids initiative for teaching mathematics to the blind, magnifying books for visually impaired students, the Gregorian calendar in Braille, and modern methods of printing curricula in Braille, as well as aspects of cooperation with the related authorities: such as the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Development.
The “Special Education Programs Station” in the Ministry’s corner introduces the special education programs and educational services provided by the Ministry to students with disabilities in the areas of speech disorders, learning difficulties, auditory integration, mental integration, and autism spectrum disorder. The “Student Companies Station” showcases the most prominent student companies at the Omar Bin Al Khattab Institute for the Blind: such as Ali Company for educational aids, in addition to an interactive exhibition for visitors to the corner.
