Familial Hypercholesterolemia Short Film Competition for Students Concluded

The joint committee between the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, and the World Health Organization, in cooperation with the Omani Association for Lipids and Atherosclerosis, and the Medical Research Center at Sultan Qaboos University, concluded the competition for the best short educational film for students on familial hypercholesterolemia. The competition targeted students of the public, private, and international schools in grades (11-12) across the Sultanate of Oman. The competition was launched at the beginning of the academic year 2022/2023, and approximately (60) visual presentations participated. The competition aims to introduce familial cholesterol, its risks to humans, symptoms of familial hypercholesterolemia, and innovative methods to raise community awareness of familial hypercholesterolemia.

The closing ceremony of the competition was held to honor winners in the competition under the auspices of Mr. Hamad bin Ali Al-Sarhani, Advisor to HE the Minister of Education for the Educational Administration. The closing ceremony included a speech by the joint committee of the competition delivered by Fadhel bin Humaid Al-Hadrami, Director of Counseling and Awareness Department at the Career Guidance and Student Counseling Center, in which he said: “The competition has proven that there are student talents with artistic and creative tendencies, and this was evident through the wonderful works of art it produced for us that carry meaningful awareness messages, and their products proved that there are latent creative energies that need more care and attention. From this standpoint, the joint committee between the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, and the High Health Organization strives to continue achieving the objectives of the competition, which are represented in artistic, literary, and indirect works carrying national, social, and health dimensions that communicate the principles of health and disease prevention.”

After that, a visual presentation was showcased of the committee's efforts on the familial hypercholesterolemia program that was implemented in the Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate, and a direct dialogue with the winners of the competition. At the end of the ceremony, the results of the participating works were announced, as the student Rawan bint Salem Al-Maamari from Bulugh Al-Amal School in Al-

Batinah North Governorate won first place, and Zainab bint Hamad Al-Bada’i from Hail Al-Awamer School in Muscat Governorate won the second place, and the third place went to a group of students from Al-Amal School for the Deaf (Ragwa bint Khalid Al-Mukhaini, Al-Walid bin Khalid Al-Mahrooqi, Abdul Rahman bin Mansour Al-Battashi, and Muhammad bin Hamad Al-Rahbi). After the announcement, the winners and organizers of this competition were honored.
