The Ministry of Education, in cooperation with Bait Al Zubair Foundation, inaugurated the third edition of Bait Al Zubair Competition for School Reading Initiatives, under the auspices of HE Professor Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, at Bait Al Zubair Museum in Muscat.
In a statement to HE the Undersecretary, Professor Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, he said: “Today, the reading competition was inaugurated for school students in cooperation with the Bait Al-Zubair Foundation, the main supporter of this competition, which is a leading institution in the cultural aspect. The Ministry of Education is keen to strengthen the partnership between the various institutions in order to improve the work quality, and the launch of this competition will enhance reading awareness and reading skills among students. We hope that schools will encourage their students to join and participate in this competition. We also hope that this partnership will extend to other aspects in the future.”
The inauguration ceremony included a speech by the Ministry of Education presented by Younis Al-Kharboushi, in which he emphasized the Ministry's belief in the continuity and consolidation of partnership between the government and private sectors in these qualitative and sustainable initiatives. He also pointed that the shared vision between the Ministry and Bait Al-Zubair to launch an initiative that serves the school community to continue the process of learning and education is the main reason for the continuation and development of this competition and its development.
After that, Fatima Al Shukri, presented the Bait Al Zubair’s speech, in which she mentioned that this competition aspires to achieve many goals in line with Oman
Vision 2040, the most prominent of which is strengthening community partnership with educational institutions to build a knowledge society, instill values of initiative and creativity, and discover student talents in order to encourage and refine them.
The competition guide will be circulated to all schools in the Sultanate, which includes definition of the initiative and the forms and types of reading initiatives. The guide also includes the objectives of the Bait Al-Zubair competition for school reading initiatives and the target group, and the conditions and criteria of the competition, such as that the initiative being in the Arabic language, that the initiative is not less than two academic years from the date of its establishment, and that it is not part of a project or program directed by the ministry or its affiliated directorates. In addition to that, the guide includes steps of the competition, the mechanisms for applying for participation, and the arbitration committee, which consists of specialists concerned with reading initiatives from the cultural community, a representative from Bait Al-Zubair Foundation, and a representative from the Ministry of Education, and finally, participation and evaluation forms.
Note that the prizes will be as follows: 1000 riyals for the first place, 700 riyals for the second place, 600 riyals for the third place, 500 riyals for the fourth place, 400 riyals for the fifth place, and 200 riyals as encouragement prizes for student initiatives - if any. April 15 of this year is the last date for receiving the initiatives in preparation for their evaluation by the competent committee.
