Ministry of Education and the Royal Oman Police implement Awareness Campaign on Drugs

The Directorate-General of Curriculum Development at the Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Islamic Education Development, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police, represented by the Directorate General for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, carried out an event on “Educating about the dangers of Drugs and their effects” in three schools in Muscat Governorate. The three-days event aims at educating students about the dangers of drugs, and guide them through the correct way to deal with them, and the role of students in warning of their various dangers.

On this event, Qais bin Khalifa Al-Khuzairi, Head of the Department of Religious Culture, said: “This event comes within the framework of the religious culture plan on raising awareness of the danger of drugs and their effects and such activities warn students against falling into the trap of promoters and bad companions, and instill in them the necessity of preserving a balanced personality and adhering to Islamic values and morals.”

The event included a lecture presented by the Royal Oman Police to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs, psychotropic substances, types, and methods of protection from falling into them. The lecturer explained the types of drugs and their categories (manufactured, natural, and semi-natural), and focused on psychotropic substances such as taking pills without a prescription, the dangers of shisha, electronic cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, and methods of prevention from falling into the trap of drugs. Among the effective programs for educating students about the dangers of drugs is the presence of a mobile exhibition to raise awareness of the harms of drugs, which is a bus that contains an integrated exhibition showing the types of drugs, psychotropic substances, and methods concealment, smuggling, the most prominent cases, the results of using, information panels of the dangers of drugs and psychotropic substances.

The Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police, represented by the Directorate-General for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control, seeks to implement awareness and preventive programs that contribute to protecting students from the danger of this scourge and ensuring that the school community is free from drugs.
