The Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the Omani Society for Writers and Literati, inaugurated the Omani Society for Writers and Literati Award for Literary Creativity for School Students in public and private school and students of special education, on Tuesday morning. The Award includes two categories; one is for the younger students (ages 7 – 11) in the fields of "literary essay, poetic recitation, public speaking and young reader", and the second is for older students (ages 11 – 18) in the fields of "Eloquent poetry, short story, literary essay, literary research and critical reading”.
HE Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, sponsored the inauguration ceremony, in the presence of Honorary Eng. Said bin Mohammad Al Saqlawi, Chairman of the OSWL, a number of the Ministry’s staff, and members of the OSWL. The ceremony took place at the Ibn Zuraiq Hall at the OSWL in the Airport Heights.
After the inauguration of the Award logo, HE the Undersecretary delivered a speech in which he pointed that honing students’ skills doesn’t only come in the scientific field, but also the literary fields as well and as important. HE also pointed in his speech that this award makes a kind of balance in the Ministry’s approach to creativity in the scientific field and such awards encourage students to highlight their talents and abilities, which in turn would bring out a lot of writers and literati to the Ministry in the various literary fields.
Dr. Amer Al Aisari, Member of the OSWL, gave a presentation included the introduction of the Award, its target students, its fields, and phases from launching to honoring winners. The ceremony concluded with HE the Undersecretary for Education and the Honorary the Chairman of OSWL, signing a memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the OSWL on the Award, followed by Honorary
presenting commemorative certificate of thanks to HE the Undersecretary for Education.
The Award aims at enhancing channels of cooperation and communication between the Ministry of Education and the OSWL. The award also aims at highlighting the importance of literary work among all segments of society, especially students and young people in schools, and developing the spirit of competition among students in winning literary prizes, thus contributing to the improvement of their literary productions and upgrading their talents and their creativity, encouraging literary writings. It also seeks to issuing distinguished literary productions for the winners, strengthening the Society’s role in community service, and enhancing awareness of the importance of literature in society.
