Students from Dhofar Governorate represent Oman at First Global Competition in Switzerland

A group of four female students from the Al-Sa'ada Basic Education School for grades 11-12, left Dhofar Governorate yesterday (Tuesday) dawn to represent the Sultanate of Oman in the First Global Competition in Geneva.

Regarding this participation, Maryam Bint Said Ba'awin, a scientific innovation specialist at the Center for Innovation and Scientific Robots in Dhofar Governorate, the team's trainer and supervisor, said, "First Global is an annual global challenge aimed at spreading Stem's education, promoting the concepts of sustainable development, encouraging young people to use technology to serve the environment, and spreading environmental awareness.

"The competition has two main components: the robot challenge, which requires the team to install and program a robot that is geometrically compatible with the tasks in the race, and the social media challenges."

The competition gives participating teams the task of preparing the appropriate content for each photography assignment and posting it on the team's social media pages and the competition, she said. With regard to the nature of the work in the competition, Ba'awin said the work is divided into two task teams: the first team, represented by the students Fatima Amer Jid and Bahiya Maqibal, is tasked with preparing social media challenges. The second team, represented by students Rawan al-Shehri and Fatima al-Mardouf in designing, programming and preparing the robot for the competition.

Ba'awein said the students' co-operation and complementarity in their work is important because the roles are intersecting and some of the roles are shared as needed based on developments in the competition.

She praised the efforts of the Center for Innovation and Scientific Robot in Dhofar Governorate in training and supervising female students, as well as the establishment of a mechanism for participation and the conditions that must be met to ensure that the Sultanate of Oman is represented in the First Global Competition in Geneva at a high level of proficiency and fair competition to achieve advanced results in this international competition.

The Director-General of the General Directorate of Education in the governorate of Dhofar thanked His Highness Sayyid. Marwan Bin Turki Bin Mahmoud Al Said, the governor of Dhofar, for supporting the participation of female students in this competition, and meeting with them at his office. He also thanked His Highness for his constant and continuous exposure to the team's work and readiness, as well as for the plans that made to achieve the goals of participation.
