“Skills for Life” program launched with 250 students

With 250 students from government schools, the "Skills for Life” program started for the first semester of 2022/2023. The program the is implemented by the Career Guidance Center and Student Counsel of Ministry of Education and Outward-Bound Oman, and supported by several private sector companies in Oman, includes 14 training courses for 14 schools from different governorates.

Outward Bound Oman programs aim to support educational, personal, and professional aspects in the participants and develop their life paths by equipping them with the basics of success, problem solving abilities, self-confidence, teamwork, self-discovery, and leadership skills. The program works on showing the students the different environments and its geographic and tourist attractions in the society. As all of these are essential skills and complementary to school’s programs, and one of the learning ways that will benefit them in the future. In addition, these programs and activities contribute to build up and enhance the students’ potentials toward the entrepreneurship world and to establish their own projects and companies.

The program started with 41 students from Ahmed bin Majid school in Al Sharqiyah South and Wadi Bani Khalid school in Sharqiyah North that was held for four days in Jabal Akhdar.

The consultant of Minister and General Director of Career Guidance center and Student counsel, Sayyida Sana bint Hamad Al Busaidi, said: “Skills for Life course enriches students with experience of learning from several ways where they participate in activities outside the classroom. It also includes tasks and missions that make students face many challenges and enable them to find solutions in a logical way.”

The Chief Operation Officer of Outward Bound Oman, Mohammed Darwish Al Zadjali, said: “we are happy to continue our cooperation with the Career Guidance and Students Counselling Centre that goes back to 2009 and for the start of Skills for Life courses this year. We aim to prepare the next generation and future leaders to develop their skills through giving them the opportunity to achieve the theories that they’ve learned in real life.”

Qualified instructors introduce Skills for Life Course including all physical activities and deep educational discussion. They usually distribute the participants into groups, each group has 18 to 20 students from each school with accompanying teacher as a supervisor. The course lasts for four days in Jabal Akhdhar in Dakhilya governorate or Al Sharqiyah Sands, Jabal Samhan in Dhofar and Bedya Sands in Al Batinah South.
