Education celebrates World Teachers Day

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Education, and the rest of the world, celebrate World Teachers Day. In commemoration of the anniversary of the adoption of 1966 ILO and UNESCO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers, which sets standards for their rights and responsibilities, employment, and teaching and learning conditions. 

This year's World Teachers' Day highlights the actions that Members committed to at the Education Transformation Summit held in September 2022 in New York, the importance of professional development of teachers, support of innovation, in addition to enhance the position of teachers and their pivotal role in achieving more flexible education systems, under the slogan: transformation of education, begins with teachers. 

The Ministry of Education seeks, within the Specialized Institute Programs, to train & qualify teaching staff with the latest techniques through training programs, such as New Teachers Program, the Training Program for Teachers in Grades 2-9 to Treat Students' Loss of Learning, the Program for Graduates of Pre-School Children Education, the Program for Science and Mathematics Series (Cambridge), and E-Education Program, which targets teachers, Administration and Supervision.  

The number of trainees enrolled in the new teacher program at the Specialized Institute from its inception until 2021/2022 was approximately 11,090. The number of trainees enrolled in the Institute's expert program was approximately 6,275 for the same period.  

The Ministry of Education has coordinated with the Standardized Admission Center to develop teachers’ skills and implemented programs to prepare teachers and qualify them to enter the Diploma program for Educational Qualifications in several higher education institutions. The total number of seats for the 2022-2023 academic year is 4,500. According to national statistics published on the website of the Standardized Admission Center, the number of students admitted to higher education in educational disciplines for 2021-2022 was 5.6% of the total number of students enrolled in various higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.  

The Ministry of Education will continue to empower teachers through strategic, specific programs based on clear professional principles.
