College of Sharia Sciences

The roots of the college trace back to the Institute of Sharia Judiciary, Preaching and Guidance, which was established by Royal Decree (86/24), to undertake the task of graduating competent individuals who are aware of the truth of religion and capable of comprehending the developments of contemporary civilization and its renewed challenges, while preserving the national values and moral ideals inspired by the principles of Islam and the cultural heritage in general, and Omani heritage in particular. In 1999, Royal Decree (99/6) was issued, changing the name of the institute to the "Institute of Sharia Sciences," within the structure of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs.

In 2000, the institute began accepting female students for the first time to study for the Diploma in Sharia Sciences; previously it had been limited to male students, granting them the Higher Certificate (Bachelor's).

In 2006, the institute moved to its new headquarters in Al Khuwair in Bousher, Muscat Governorate, near Sultan Said bin Taimur Mosque, and began a phase of expansion in admissions and specializations.

On July 19, 2014, Royal Decree (2014/35) was issued establishing the "College of Sharia Sciences" and issuing its regulations; to be a cornerstone in consolidating the values of contemporary human civilization for the country, based on religion, morality, and beneficial knowledge.
